This is not in addition to the existing mailing list, its simply another
form of viewing it and participating to it  !! Gmane.org allows you to
access an existing mailing list via newsreader by mirroring it, so you can
follow the discussion and even reply without getting spammed with 100s of
emails per day. I unsubscribed from Xvid and other mailing lists because of
this very reason months ago ( even with a good mail client setup 250 emails
/ day are simply too much ) , now i am pretty happy i can follow it again
with no big hassle and pick the subjects i am interested in.

To avoid any form of spam being sent to the mailing list via gmane.org the
admin will send you an automatic authentification email if you are trying to
reply to the newsgroup. After you replied to that your post to the newsgroup
is sent as an email to the mailing list ( with about 5 mins delay, sometimes
faster ). More on http://www.gmane.org  .
