Hey, since you are reading this a question :) Does your code do an optimal
search or an M-best search?

On a different note, for anyone who knows... is the R-D curve for the coding
of a level inside a given (escape-)coding mode convex? (That would mean you
could search within the level range for the given mode with a bisection
search for the optimal path right?)
