I'm sorry to interfere here, but this isn't the whole truth: 2pass curve 
treatment is messed up :-/ It's impossible to do a proper 2pass now, the 
2nd pass gets encoded with fixed quant 2 as well (in my tests), and some 
user reports on Doom9 are pointing in the same direction.
