Hi,

I just checked mem speed of the new Opteron Machine on Sourceforge Compile
Farm. Maybe someone is interested, results are attached, also for good old
PentiumII, 450MHz and Pentium4 2.4GHz.

It seems that Opteron does pretty well for stride values up to 128byte
(32bit mode) or 256byte (64bit mode).
Unfortunately, this is only enough for QCIF sized pic :-( For DVD-like, I
guess the 1K stride values are more interesting. There, P4 and Opteron
aren't much apart, except for 2MB total size on Opteron and 512K on P4.
No idea why those are so different, I'll check membench's algorithm.

Anyway, there finally is a chance to check XVID on AMD64, and that's what
I'm gonna do next.

Okay, first results. Handle with care, since
a) SuSE Linux on Opteron is Beta
b) Encoding/decoding crashed somewhat later in the file:

But: a 90-frames clip from Matrix, 720x576 at 25fps

Pentium4, 2.4GHz fps = 127,
Opteron, 1.6Ghz fps = 168 <--- 132% of P4

so for XVID Opteron 1.6 would have a PR Rating of close to 3200.

Not bad for a first time compile...
