[XviD-devel] Shot Detection in XVid?

Hello,
I'm working on a thesis about shot detection in video streams.

I'm very interested in XVid and couldn't help noticing that there is a scene
detection algorithm used in XVid as well.... (correct me if I'm wrong)

Now I'd like to know what kind of algorithm it is. If it is freely available
and how it works etc.

Can someone explain it to me at a simple and understanding manner?
