Some results, same sequence, but xvid was compiled for
athlon-xp, that's why base times are not the same:
BENCHMARKs: VC: 231,927s Total: 243,061s <-- vanilla 1.0.1
BENCHMARKs: VC: 229,343s Total: 240,474s <-- 1.0.1 + on fly dequant + get_coeff optim
BENCHMARKs: VC: 207,863s Total: 218,960s <-- vanilla HEAD
BENCHMARKs: VC: 204,271s Total: 215,398s <-- HEAD  + on fly dequant + get_coeff optim

Patch available there (oversedes the old get_coeff.diff):

I'm still collecting other good ideas, so post them if you have
