You may just wanna have a look at the cvs tarball (there's a link on the
homepage). In that case, you'll have, if I recall right more a pre-1.1
than a pre-1.0 as 1.0 is, AFAIK feature-frozen and only for bug-fixes.

If you plan to play with new features such as bvhq and use MEncoder for
encoding, please make sure to visit Edouard Gomez website and download
an updated front-end, and copy ve_xvid4.c and vc_xvid4.c of MPlayer's
libmpcodecs/ directory. You might have to pick a cvs version of MPlayer
too, but it works ok for me too.
