Specifically, the problem here is that OS X requires libraries to be  
ranlibbed after install.

Also, -freduce-all-givs isn't needed on GCC 4; it was just a hack for  
older GCCs. If you want sensible build flags for OS X, I would  
suggest "-fast -mcpu=G3".
