[XviD-devel] ??: xvid for wince

Hello all,

I'd like to highlight some points on this topic:

1) xvid can be compiled also for Win CE using ARCH_IS_GENERIC (as mentioned
below). However then, no processor-specific optimizations will be enabled
and the resulting binary will be slow. To reach at least a reasonable
performance-level, you really have to create optimized code for your target
processor architecture.

2) To make your port usable to the average user you'll likely need to
integrate xvid into a frontend like e.g. a video player application. So
there's more work required than just recompiling the xvidcore library.

3) Note also that xvid is released under the terms of the GNU General
Public License (GPL). A copy of the license comes with the xvid source
code or can also be found here: http://www.gnu.org/licenses/gpl.txt
An important aspect in short: if you distribute xvid integrated with a
frontend or player (as described in 2)), you'll have to publish the app
as a whole under the terms of the GPL. That requires (among other things)
also the provision of the full app's source code. Please read the license
text for more detail.
