Any kind of subtle modifications will make someone to
crack it and distribute the patched codec in less than
a week.
May be you're looking for encryption, or pherhaps
scrambling the image before it reaches the codec, and
unscrambling it after decoding??

IMPORTANT!:
a) Modifying the XviD codec without releasing it's
code would violate the GPL license.
b) Depending on the XviD codec will force you to
release your app's source code, so anyone would see
how you're scrambling the source image or encrypting
the final compressed image.

If you're looking a way to use XviD to avoid other
players to play your files, without releasing how to
do it, you would be violating the GPL (at least with
the options suggested so far)
(note that if the program would be used within a group
and marked as secret, you would only need to release
the source to the group, the trade-secret laws still
applies, I recommend reading
http://www.gnu.org/licenses/gpl-faq.html#TradeSecretRelease
 )
